Personal Statement

Hello! I am Inha Jun, a junior at the Academy of the Holy Angels in New Jersey. I have been playing golf ever since I was 7 years old after watching my father play golf. We would travel to play a variety of different golf courses and I was amazed by the unique swing and different strategies to approach a hole. I was influenced by the determination and positive mindset that should be present when playing this sport. The pandemic made me realize my passion and how I wanted to work hard to accomplish my big dreams of playing golf at the collegiate level. Therefore, I started playing competitive golf and it has been 3 years since the beginning when my handicap was 6.9 but now it has improved to +2.6.

Furthermore, my academic and leadership achievements include my 4.0 GPA and involvement in several clubs such as Student Council, Asian American Club, and the DECA Business Club which clearly emphasize my strong work ethic. While accomplishing my dreams of playing golf at a competitive level, I would also like to pursue a degree in finance-related areas. In doing so, I will not only be able to share my athletic talents but work hard to represent the school and accomplish my personal goals.

I am looking forward to getting recruited and dedicating my time to college and golf. I believe I can be a team player as I consider myself to always put in extra time and encourage my teammates to do their best. Our previous high school season (early spring) truly captures all of this as my school won the NJ State Championship, NJ North Jersey Sectional, Bergen County Championship, and came in third at the National High School Championship.

My positive attitude and commitment to the game make me an accomplished candidate for any golf team which is truly evident after I was selected as 2022 NJ PGA JR. Player of the Year (ages 13-15) and 2023 First Team All-North Jersey Team (#2 Ranked in North Jersey).

I would like to thank my parents, friends, and all my coaches for the support they are providing for me.

Thank you!

Events

  • Camp/Event
  • NJPGA Fall Invitational
  • 10/14/23 to 10/15/23
  • I won Girls Overall (13-18) Division with a score of 73 (+3) and won a three way playoff. This tournament was cut down to one day as the first day of play was suspended due to weather.

  • 9/23/23 to 9/24/23
  • I was invited to play in the HJGT Northeast Invitational from coming in Top 3 in an earlier HJGT event from the beginning the year. The first day of play was suspended due to unplayable weather and tropical storm Ophelia affecting most states in the East. Although many players withdrew from the tournament, I managed to persevere and come on top through tough conditions of 20 mph winds and drenched greens with a score of 74 (+2). Winning the Girls 14-18 Division allowed me to get invitations to the HJGT Tournament of Champions and National Championship presented by Foresight Sports held in Orlando, Florida.
  • Camp/Event
  • NJPGA Back-to-School Championship
  • 8/28/23 to 8/29/23

  • 8/22/23 to 8/24/23

  • Camp/Event
  • AJGA Coca-Cola Junior Championship at Sugarloaf
  • 8/15/23 to 8/17/23
  • The course played extremely tough after undergoing unplayable rain during the practice round which resulted in getting cancelled. However, I managed to post scores of 75-78 to make the cut. I ended the last round with a 74 to come in T10 (my highest finish in AJGA).
  • Camp/Event
  • 98th Women's Amateur Championship
  • 7/31/23 to 8/02/23
  • Shot 71 (-1) and 72 (E) for the stroke play qualifying rounds to make the Top 16 for matchplay. Unfortunately, I was not playing my best and lost in the first round of matchplay but overall, a great learning experience playing in my first state amateur championship.

  • 7/24/23 to 7/25/23
  • I won Girls Overall and 16-18 Division by 7 strokes with a first-day score of 71 (-1) at Hawk Pointe Golf Club. Due to severe weather on the second day, scores were cut to only 9 holes and ended up posting 34 (-1) for a total of -2.
