Personal Statement
What is my goals?
My aspirations are to play for the varsity women's golf team at a good college in East and West coast and help and eventually lead my team in finding success in our league.
What makes me a good candidate for the team?
I have lots of experience, and with it comes a lot of wisdom. I know my clubs and how to navigate a course. I enjoy playing for a team and bonding with teammates and have played for multiple different teams, from TGA to PGA Junior to my own high school golf team. I enjoy playing with my teammates and being able to get out on the course and play.
What makes me different?
What sets me apart from other players is that I am composed and in control of my emotions, and don't let a bad shot get to me. If I get stressed, I take a few deep breaths and reset, which helps me recover and resume playing well. I have come across many players that are rude or condescending to those who they believe are worse players than themselves, but I always make a point to be nice to everyone I am playing with and to always try to help out a fellow player if possible.
My priorities are academics and golf. I earned the highest honors in middle school and was given the science award for earning the highest science grade in my class. I was a member of NJHS and the treasurer of the Student Council. I love learning new things and exploring new topics, which is the reason I decided to apply to my high school, Bergen County Academies. I wanted to challenge myself and learn new things I might not be exposed to in a normal high school. I love science and enjoy discovering new things, so I chose to attend the Academy for the Advancement of Science and Technology. I first asked my dad if I could play golf after we watched Tiger Woods playing on television. I found the sport interesting and fun and was in love with it from the start. I began playing at a golf program after school in our school gym in second grade. It was composed of us kids chipping balls off of turf mats into nets across the gym. I started going to the driving range during second grade but began playing on courses and in tournaments during the summer before fifth grade. I began playing in U.S. Kids tournaments, which I have aged out of, and I currently play in the Bergen County Pioneer Tour, NJPGA, and the Hurricane Tour. I placed third in the local qualifier and went to the sub regional competition for Drive Chip and Putt in 2015, and won the local qualifier in 2016. I was selected to play on the PGA Junior League All Stars Metro Team, and we placed third out of 19 teams in the league. I got first, second, and fifth place at U.S. Kids tournaments in 2017 and qualified to play in the regional competition at Whispering Pines. In my freshman year at Bergen County Academies, I played on the Girl's Varsity Golf Team, and we placed fourth in Bergen County with an 18-4 record. I was on the Big North Conference First Team All Division West 2017-2018 and was a member of the Big North Girls Golf Under 40 Club Spring 2018 after I scored a 39 during a match.
