My name is Gia Vitelli and I am currently a sophomore at Hightstown Highschool in Central New Jersey. I was introduced to golf at birth, received my first set of clubs before I was even 2 years old, and officially started playing when I was just four! It’s safe to say that golf has and always will be a huge part of my life.
I have played on co-ed teams with the PGA Junior League, US Kids Golf, and most recently joined the Under Armour Junior Tour where I have played on the Fall and Spring Leagues for the last two years. I am currently playing in the new female only division of Central Jersey’s Under Armour Junior Tour and practicing regularly. I played for my varsity high school golf team as a freshman and was named team captain and mvp.
I’m an energetic, independent, highly motivated, and results-driven student and athlete. Golf has had an amazing, positive impact on my life and I look forward to seeing where the future for me in golf and academics will lead! The possibilities are endless!
I am an honor roll student and my favorite subjects are math and social studies. At a young age school was very challenging and I was diagnosed with dyslexia at the age of 7. I was determined to not let this set me back and through extensive tutoring support both in and outside of school I have overcome dyslexia and continue to excel, most recently being placed in honors programs. I continue to openly share my experiences with others and feel that having dyslexia gives me a great advantage and motivation to continuously succeed and overcome any obstacle in my path.
I truly love learning new things and working with my teachers and coaches to expand my knowledge and skills. I was extremely lucky this past summer to spend the afternoon hearing from the great Annika Sorenstam and was honored to play 3 holes with her! What stood out most was how she told us she never hit a bad shot – explaining that if there ever was one, she immediately forgot it and left it behind her so she could remain positive, focused, and move forward! This was amazing advise and it was truly a day I will never forget!
Golf has always been a constant for me over the years, allowing me to maintain focus and gain confidence despite any challenges. While I am unsure my future career path , I am interested in exploring areas related to law and the legal system. For the immediate future I remain focused on exceeding expectations academically and athletically to continue to improve my physical and mental capabilities.
Beyond golf and school, I enjoy playing field hockey, am a huge New York Rangers hockey fan, and love photography and art – especially painting, sketching, and sculpting. I look forward to exploring future paths and speaking with you!
