My name is Heidi Chen. I am 15 years old and a rising junior at Ursuline Academy of Dallas. I started playing golf at 7 years old and immediately fell in love with the sport. Ever since then, I have worked diligently to improve my game as well as develop my mental toughness on the course. I started playing tournaments a few years later and with each score, I became more determined to shoot better than the time before. The game of golf has taught me lifelong skills of patience and sportsmanship in addition to teaching me the importance of maintaining a positive attitude while enjoying myself on the course and the range. I am very open to new ideas, approaches, and environments, which has helped me work collaboratively with members of my high school golf team. I have been on the Varsity Team for the past 2 years, being named "Newcomer of the Year" at the end of my freshman year. My current position on the team is 4th, but I am always looking for opportunities to challenge myself and move higher up on our team rankings. Despite the commitments I have made to practicing golf daily, I am able to maintain a 4.34 gpa, while taking almost all honors and AP classes. I also have a strong passion for service and giving back to the community. I volunteer weekly at a Sunday school that teaches math and English to younger students in middle and elementary school. By helping the students, I am building their confidence in the subject and guiding them in their academic journey.
My aspiration is to play golf at the collegiate level where I know I can further improve my golf game with the assistance of coaches and fellow teammates. Not only am I looking for a school that can help me pursue my dream of playing college golf, but I also have a goal of attending a school with a highly competitive academic program. I intend to major in biology and medical science, but I am eager to explore other areas of study through camps and internships.
