Personal Statement
Playing girls hockey for many years has taught me courage, discipline, teamwork and most of all, time management. I fell in love with hockey when I was six and heard about it through another sport I was playing at the time. I still remember suiting up the first day of practice and from that moment on, my life has changed.
I have had to face multiple obstacles in my path to get to where I am today in my hockey career, one being my hour and a half drive for practice. I loved the sport so much that eventually, I had to find a more competitive team and it happened to be in Syracuse, NY. I started making this trip twice a week to practice with my club team in seventh grade, and I am proud to say that I have maintained a very high GPA while doing so. I make sure to utilize my time in the car to do as much homework as I can. Another obstacle I had to overcome in my hockey career was when I had pneumonia for two weeks. When I was finally cleared to get back on the ice again it was very difficult to get back into the physical state I had been in before. Pneumonia was a test on my mental strength as well causing me to push myself harder than ever.
I am looking for a program that will not only fit my athletic needs, but my academic needs as well. I believe that my work ethic, character, and time management skills, I will be a benefit to your program!
