My dream is to go to the Olympics and or the World Cup. It used to be in gymnastics but as I got older I fell out of love with gymnastics and fell into Lacrosse at school. As a team sport requiring athleticsm, tenacity, speed, agility, eye hand coordination, spatial awareness, balance, power, speed endurance, team work, communication, performance under pressure I found my place in the athletic world. I lead our school teams' defence but am equally comfortable playing forward in mid. My gymnastics background has ingrained in me a training ethic, determination, will, competitive desire and broad athletic foundation to be able to "own and lead" our defence but also being able to switch into an attacking midfielder providing that link bringing the ball forward to create an attacking platform for the forwards. I am a strong leader and communicator on the field.
I have excelled in athletics at school despite it not being my chosen sport, competing in middle and sprint distances in the summer and switching to cross-country in the winter. I play netball for the school team too which has allowed my spatial awareness and eye hand coordination to be further improved. I have been a member of the Regional and National Lacrosse age group academies since I was 14. This year I was selected to play for England U19 in the Home Counties international matches which we won.
I have been a schools first team player for 4 years in lacrosse. In my final year of school I won the best sports woman award. I have been a school prefect and head of house which has helped me improve my communication and leadership skills. I am currently predicted three A grades in English, Economics and Psychology. I sat my SAT last year and attained a score of 1240.
I have been fortunate to be coached in the UK by a number of graduates from US colleges who have played or still play for England and they have inspired me to challenge myself as a player and a person and try to gain a place in a US college due to very high standard of coaching and college lacrosse in the US. I am also very keen to enjoy a new experience by living in the US. The opportunity to live, learn and play in the US is one I would relish, applying myself to my studies and sport with the same traits that have made me successful thus far. I like the way students are able to expose themselves to a broad range of subjects in the US in the first two years of study before choosing their majors and a career path thereafter. I believe I would bring something different to your team and institution as a South African born and UK educated student.
