Personal Statement

My name Is Tess Everett and I am a three-sport athlete -- Field Hockey, Ice Hockey, and Lacrosse -- at Champlain Valley Union High School (CVU) in Hinesburg, VT. At the collegiate level, I am focused on playing both Field Hockey and Lacrosse. Both my parents were two-sport athletes at the Division III level and they loved the combination of elite academics and athletics. As I look ahead to college, that combination is something I desire to experience for myself.

I am very hard working in and out of school and I make it a priority to do well for myself. Currently, I have a 4.3 GPA with a challenging class load. My school did not offer the PSAT to sophomores due to COVID, but I will take it in October 2021. In 9th grade, I was awarded the top academic prize, and I also won my middle school’s highest award for academics and leadership.

Athletically, I have already made a big contribution as a sophomore. I made the varsity field hockey team as a first-year and saw action in every game up to the State Semifinals. This year I started every game, rarely left the field, and was named Second Team All-Metro by opposing coaches, while the team made it to the D1 State Finals. In ice hockey, I was the leading scorer as a first-year on a team that lost in the State Finals. So far this season, I am centering the first line and leading the team in points. High School lacrosse was canceled last year, which was so disappointing, as it may be my best sport. I was able to play all summer on the 802 Lacrosse 2023 club team, and we are optimistic we can play this Spring.

Playing three sports has helped me become a well-rounded athlete with a great skill set.  Not only am I lead by example player on the field, but I am also a very coachable kid who loves to meet new people. I always have a positive attitude and I look forward to bettering myself and those around me while making lifelong connections with the people I play with.  I stay focused and driven to help my teams succeed and I know it is important for everyone to have fun and do what they love.
