My name is Ruby Delinsky, and I am a junior at the Noble and Greenough School in Dedham, Massachusetts. My academic goals for college are to study economics or business and to set myself up for a career in entrepreneurship or finance. I dream of rowing all four years on a competitive team and look forward to continuing to balance rigorous academics and athletics.
I have a competitive personality and want to excel in everything that I do. I am very proud of the fact that my boats are undefeated in regular season races through my 2 years on varsity crew and that my team has been back-to-back NEIRA Champions, which has not been accomplished by our program in 30 years. I am detail oriented in preparation, both mentally and physically. For example, I begin race prep at least 3 days in advance and, harnessing the power of visualization, will have raced the course in my mind numerous times before the race even begins. I think that I am successful as a student and as an athlete because I constantly set tangible goals for myself and give my all to accomplish them. I am different from other people my age because I stick to a schedule that aligns with my goals (bedtime at 8:30pm and wake up at 5-6am, with minimal time on screens). My friends know that if they text me after 8 pm that they won't be getting a response until the next morning! I dedicate my time to better myself through daily meditation, exercise, reading, and spending time with my family and pets. My goal of being an academic and rowing powerhouse drives singular focus - I do not allow time for drama and distraction.
I do, however, value relationships with my teammates and family. Being part of a team is one of my favorite aspects of rowing. When I hit the pain cave during races, I go even harder for the girls sitting in front of or behind me in the boat, because I want to win for them. My teammates both at school and at my summer rowing programs have become my best friends. My teammates consistently say that I am very hype, positive, motivating, and that they enjoy seat racing alongside me because they know that I am always all in. My parents are my role models in how I approach my life. My dad, as a successful executive, and my mom, as a psychologist, have instilled in me the importance of self care, hard work, and being true to my values.
