Hello coaches! After several years of playing hockey, I tried learn to row programs in 7th grade and 8th grade, and I have been rowing ever since. I am currently competing in my fourth season of high school rowing (and two winter sessions), rowing starboard in the 1V boat after rowing my first two seasons at port. Rowing has taught me a lot about the benefits of hard work and discipline, and I have gained significant experience both sweeping and sculling at Hingham High and in the many camps I've attended. This fall, I was fortunate enough to help my team win the Massachusetts State Championship as a rower on our first varsity boat. This spring, we won the State Championship in back to back seasons for the first time in program history!! Last summer, I attended Ready Set Row and competed at Summer Nationals, where my 8+ U17 boat took home a silver medal. This summer I am going back to RSR for my second year competing at the U17 level.
On and off the water, I strive every day to be a good teammate; one of the things I love most about rowing is the camaraderie and the incredibly supportive environment as we all work to find success together. During my first year rowing, my coaches selected me for the Rising Star Award, given to a promising novice rower. A teammate also awarded me with the Hayes Shea Award, as a rower who exemplifies hard work and support for others. Most recently, my coaches selected me for the Sportsmanship Award, given to an athlete with a positive attitude who shows support for her teammates. In addition to rowing, I also work equally hard in the classroom. I have maintained a strong GPA and, after getting on the honor roll my first term of high school, I have made high honors every term since.
I would like to row at a college program that has a strong team culture and a supportive atmosphere. I really value hard work and discipline, and I am hoping to find a program that will help me continue to grow as an athlete and as a person. I think you will find me to be a hard worker, a good teammate, and a very coachable athlete.
