Rowing is one of the most challenging things I have ever done, but also the most rewarding. My sophomore year I dropped my 2k time by 38 seconds and won the “Most Improved Female Athlete” award. Working hard and seeing the results of my efforts gave me confidence in my own physical strength, but has also made me mentally stronger than ever before. I saw winning this award as an opportunity to push myself even further. I realized that no matter how much I improve, I always have the ability to push myself to be faster and stronger.
In the same year, I was put in the 1st varsity 8 on my team. At first I was worried that racing teams with boats full of seniors meant we were at a disadvantage, but I soon realized that winning a race isn’t about how many years you’ve been doing it or even strength. At the end of the day, the only thing that really matters in a race is how far you’re willing to push yourself to win. At the 2023 Stotesbury Cup Regatta, we made the final and earned 5th place out of 27 boats, the highest a women’s varsity 8 has ever placed on the Montclair team.
Rowing has changed the way I approach and overcome challenges in all aspects of my life. I love that the more I put in, the more I get out of it. It has been a huge gift to me because it has helped me to challenge myself in terms of self discipline, drive, and determination to achieve goals. Despite all of this, I am just at the beginning of my rowing journey. I can't wait to take it to the next level and discover just how far I can go.
