My goal is to attend a college and earn a masters or doctors degree in physical therapy. It would be the icing on the cake to be able to cox for a college team. I enjoy being a part of a team and it is a great feeling when we all work together with winning results.
I rowed as a novice my freshman year of school, but soon realized that I could probably better benefit the team as a coxswain since I am on the short side being 4 feet 11 inches. I started coxing my sophomore year for my high school on the junior varsity team. I next joined our local club team for the summer and enhanced my coxing skills through the leadership of Coach Benfield with her adult team. I spent my summer nights on the mighty Hudson River learning cox skills and each morning I would practice with the junior learn to row team. In the fall, I joined the Masters team as their cox under the leadership of Coach Sayles from Marist College. We had a ton of fun and some good racing as well. Currently (Feb 2013) we are in winter training with the high school team and we will be on the Hudson River as soon as the ice breaks in late March.
I also am a team member of my school Cheer Leading Team. We cheer for our football and basketball teams. I enjoy being a part of this team. Currently I am a member of the varsity cheer team.
Outside of school, my activites and interests are mainly in my church parish. I have been an altar server for Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church since the fourth grade. The past three summers I have assisted our Faith Formation director as a counselor with the week long vacation bible school, K-5 School of Religion, 6th Grade School of Religion and 7th/8th Grade Soul Survivor camps. It is fun working with the children and being a role model for them. I also assist with other church activities, programs and fund raisers throughout the year.
Spring 2013 -- Winter training is over; the ice has melted off the river and practice begins! I am very excited this year to be a part of the Lourdes Boys Varisty Crew team as their cox. We have our first race of the season coming up in a couple of weeks and we are hoping for a fast boat.
June 2013 -- School season is over, went by fast, too fast. I coxed the Men's team this season. We had a really good group of young men. We started the season in March with the 13th Annual Indoor Sprints at Marist College. 229 total entries. I came in 12th out of 17 with a time of 2:13.2 for the 500 meter Coxie Women event. In April, we headed to Philly for the 5th Manny Flick.Horvat Series Regatta for our first race of the season. Boys JV 8+ event with a time of 4:52.49 and 20th out of 27 in our heat. Onto the 16th Annual Saratoga Invitational's. Lots of boats ... 1088 entries. Our Mens V8+ and V4+ boats did very well. In May was the Triangulars Regatta at our boathouse in Poughkeepsie were we pick up up a couple of medals. Onto the New York State Scholastic Championship Regatta were we came in 8th our of 27 in the JV 4+ event. We ended our season at the Stotesbury Cup in Philadelphia where we came in 28th out of 65 in the JV 4+ event with a time of 5:19.33. In June, we participated in our local Row for the Cure where we had tons of fun and brought home a couple of medals as well. Com'on summer !
Summer came ..went ..flew by. This winter was rough with all the snow and freezing cold weather. Finally was able to get on the water this past weekend. That's right... April 19th was first day of water! I am very excited that after weeks of pondering and visiting colleges, I have made the decision and commitment to study and row at Ithaca College in the fall of 2014.
