I’m Zoe Johnson, I am 16 years old and a sophomore from Cincinnati, OH. I became interested in rowing after I stopped playing AAU and high school basketball, and was looking to try something new, I joined rowing the fall of 2018. Through rowing, I learned how to be a team player because in rowing everyone has to do their job to get the boat out on the water and racing fast. The process of getting the boat to the water was new to all of us and I think it started a bond between teammates that day. One of my coach’s stated that “Zoe is like the mother hen… always looking after and encouraging others" - and I pride myself on that quality.
Learning more about the technique of rowing and how we can work in sync to win is a part of the sport I like. I learned I give off energy that can have positive impact on others. I also learned more about my leadership skills and how to encourage my teammates to put forth their best effort.
Im looking for a college in the midwest or east coast because I would like to stay somewhat close to home. I would prefer a Christian or Jesuit school, but that isn’t a deal breaker for me. I would also like a school where I could major in health sciences, exercise science or something similar so I can pursue my goal of becoming an occupational therapist.
