I started rowing when I was twelve years old, and I instantly fell in love with the sport. I have always loved the feeling of being on the water and the physical challenge that rowing demands. Growing up in Oklahoma, where rowing isn’t widely known, I’ve often had to explain the sport to others. People are always amazed by the level of work it requires, and that challenge is what makes me love rowing even more! The sport has taught me the value of hard work—not just in rowing, but in school, at home, and being a supportive teammate.
One of the best parts of my rowing experience has been helping new rowers learn the ropes around the boathouse. Watching them learn how to be a rower reminds me of why I love this sport and has shaped what I’m looking for in a college team. I want to be part of a program that pushes me to improve while having a culture where teammates support each other, both on and off the water.
I am not the fastest rower on my team at OKC Riversport, but I am relentless in my pursuit of progress. Every day, I strive to improve my 2k erg scores, refine my technique, and earn a spot in faster boats. Rowing has been the perfect avenue for me to challenge myself, and I embrace every opportunity to push my limits. Rowing in college would allow me to continue growing in the sport that has shaped me, and I would love to bring my dedication and work ethic to a team.
