Personal Statement

I am athlete who has been active in both Crew and Marching Band with a desire to become a collegiate student-athlete. Crew is my preferred college sport and my primary position is as a coxswain; although, I have also rowed on both sides. I have trained year round in order to become the coxswain I am today. Over the past three years I have coxed both juniors and masters, head races and sprint races in order to expand my experience and knowledge of the sport. My crews have raced at local VASRA Regattas and are competitive for finals spots. Last year I competed at the Stotesbury Cup Regatta in Pennsylvania and my crew placed in the top 12 for the lightweight men's four category. I have attended numerous camps, to include separate rowing and coxing camps at the Naval Academy.

I am in my final year of high school, maintaining my GPA and continuing to challenge myself in AP and IB courses. I look forward to gaining more rowing and coxing experience as the spring season approaches.

My preferred college institution will challenge me academically and in an athletic environment where the team is determined to compete with other top crews. I believe that any team can compete at their highest level, especially when there is a strong connection between rowers and coxswains. I would like to pursue a college institution that is strong in their principles and inspires their student body to be a part of a future that is greater than themselves. I believe my best fit would be at the NCAA D1 or D2 level, although I will absolutely consider any opportunity.
