Personal Statement
CONNECTION - I have a soccer ball with me wherever I go. Soccer has allowed me to connect with friends on multiple teams and locations through the years and even connect around the world. When I went to Costa Rica, a highlight of my trip was playing a pickup game with kids on a concrete slab at their school yard. I play locally for Durango HighSchool, our local club - Rio Rapids Durango, and Rio Rapids Girls Academy in Albuquerque. Even in the winter season, I played in a co-ed indoor futsal team to keep soccer touches going daily. I am also co-coaching a group of 8 year old boys for fall 2022 soccer season. I hope to play soccer collegiately and look forward to that immediate connection with others.
COMMITMENT - I live in Durango, Colorado. It is a beautiful small mountain town, but is definitely isolated from the bigger cities. This requires more travel and commitment to have soccer opportunities. I often drive 3 hours for soccer practices in Albuquerque and more for games and tournaments. I am just as committed off the field too. It requires discipline for school work on the road, and I am maintaining honors status. I am committed to being a school leader in student council as sophomore vice president. When I commit to something, I give 110%!
PERSONAL - I am one of the middle kids, of 4 kids in our family. All of us siblings have a healthy competitive attitude with each other, and I carry this attitude with me on the field. I have a younger brother adopted from the Democratic Republic of Congo and he has helped me be more aware of cultural diversity and inclusion, and pushes me to go faster. I have an older sister with learning and health challenges, and she opens my eyes to be patient and accepting of others. My oldest brother has been the Miller kid to do everything first and sets the bar high, pushing me to succeed too.
GOALS - On and off the turf, I enjoy serving and helping others. This comes by being a good teammate, student leader, and responsible worker. I also enjoy fostering puppies and helping with community service projects. I would like to continue to help others in my future, and am considering studying health sciences in college.
