Personal Statement
My name is Sage Kaufman and I'm a Sophomore in high school from Glenwood Springs, Colorado. I've been playing soccer since I was four years old, when I started playing for Colorado Storm and now play for Grand Junction Fire, a club located an hour and a half away from my home town. I started every game for my varsity high school team last year as a Freshman, and am a center back and defensive center midfielder for both high school and club.
I love playing soccer and remember my excitement watching the USWNT win the 2015 world cup. This event really grew my passion for the game and showed me amazing role models to look up to and learn from. Soccer has allowed me to challenge myself and meet so many incredible people, as well as being an escape from anything I’m dealing with outside of sport. One of my favorite soccer memories is winning the Las Vegas Classic showcase tournament with a Colorado select team in 2019. This tournament taught me so much about myself as a person and player and allowed me to grasp how many amazing people I could meet through sports. I’m so grateful to have soccer in my life right now, and strive to continue playing throughout college. I am extremely competitive and believe this drive helps me to leave it all on the field.
I am a very dedicated student and am excited to really challenge myself academically in college. I have a 4.0 gpa and scored in the 99th percentile on my PSAT test last year. I am very interested in science and math and hope to focus in those areas during college, maybe in neuroscience or environmental science. I also enjoy doing art and love skiing with my family and friends. I hope to continue playing soccer at the next level in college while receiving a rigorous education.
