Personal Statement

Hello,

My name is Enra Aguilera and I am a 2021 graduate from Highlands Ranch High School.

I was born in Aspen, CO and I am the first born in a family of four children. I am a female born of a South African mother and Mexican father. My family background revolves around strong Christian faith. I am very proud of my cultural background and family values. I grew up in a working-parents family and I have grown to live in harmony with my siblings.

Regarding my personality, I am outspoken and like socializing and making new friends. Interacting with people from different parts of the world makes me a diverse person. I believe that there is richness in human diversity. A cheerful, cordial, and accommodative person is how many people know me.

My view of life is that all humans are equal regardless of their cultural, racial, and religious backgrounds as well as gender. This is why I have friends whose cultural and other backgrounds are diverse. I am also liberal in that I am open to learning new things such as new cultures, religions, and even languages. I also believe that divergent views should be tolerated because this is part of enhancing human diversity. Being open to new things, in my view, amounts to being accommodative to human diversity.

To me, respect and hard work go hand in hand. principles, sportsmanship, and leadership are some the qualities that depict me. As a quick learner, I love to change every behavior that doesn’t make me a better person. The desire to be good to everybody has made me who I am today and I intend to keep it that way.

I am an extreme optimist and take everything on with enthusiasm. I live by a strong code of ethics and Christian principles while having clarity on the objectives I am striving for. I have the ability to endure in the face of adversity – a patient and relenting effort to achieve despite difficulties. I am self-aware, self-confident and self-disciplined.

What I have learned about myself as a soccer player:

  1. Parents are incredible.  The complete and ever-present support, guidance and love my parents have shown me throughout the years of my soccer career, has been phenomenal.
  2. There is no bond like that of a teammate. They are more than just friends, they are family. You get in fights, you push each other’s buttons, but at the end of the day, you would do anything for your teammates.
  3. You need to develop thick skin. I have been yelled at, screamed at and even humiliated by a coach at some point. I have said things I didn’t mean and I have been the target of someone’s bad day. I have learned to take criticism without being phased. My coaches and teammates have toughened me up.
  4. We have all played in games where our team simply can’t score. You could be outshooting a team 50-0 and end up losing 0-1. That’s just the way life and soccer work; but that’s okay, because chances are there is a game next week. Soccer taught me that the ball won’t always bounce in your favor, but you’ll always have another chance to get a win.
  5. You win some, you lose some and sometimes you get rained out. Soccer has taught me to not let life and situations get you down, and thus to always look ahead to the next opponent, the next opportunity and the next adventure.
  6. It is more than just a game. Soccer is so much about the places that you go and the people that you meet. It is about seeing new states (or countries) with your friends. It is about lasting friendships that extend much further than the field. Soccer is about the memories made and the amazing relationships formed along the way and the most amazing and beautiful goals that will forever be engraved in us forever.

Soccer constantly leaves turf burns on my heart!!

I hope to achieve all of my goals. They are goals that I believe I need to have to be a successful member of the society, and through attending an university or college I also hope to gain a more positive image of myself, build my personal growth. Encountering new people will provide me with the opportunity to improve myself as well as to help others with their improvement.

My high school goal is to graduate with a 4.0 GPA while participating in various volunteer and extra curricular activities. My college goal would be to graduate with a degree in International Business.

I believe I will make an excellent addition to any soccer team. I have knowledge of my role (position) on the team as well as those of others, since I have a very diverse experience in various positions. If I am needed elsewhere on the team, I make sure to take the time to understand my position by asking questions, giving updates and checking in with others on the team and with my coaches. I also have shown the ability to recognize and work with certain interdependencies between me and others on our team. I am credible, reliable and loyal to my team, sometimes to a fault. Most important to me is to look for the lessons learned in the past to improve my results for today. Even if the team was for High School or club and the goals were very different, there are always lessons learned that I can and will apply. The things I did well, I would always want to repeat and things I could have done better, I would want to correct.

In conclusion, I can summarize myself as someone who is respectful, accommodative, and open minded. I appreciate that as a human, I need others for my life to be complete.

I look forward to hearing from you and learning more about your establishment.
