Hello, my name is Megan Thompson and I would like to tell you a little about myself.
I am 17 years old and a senior at Mercy Academy (class of 2019) in Louisville, Ky. Louisville is home to the Kentucky Derby, the Louisville Slugger, Louisville City FC, and Mohammed Ali just to name a few highlights. I played on the 2015 JV and 2016, 2017, 2018 varsity soccer teams at Mercy and I am currently a player for Derby City Rossoneri (DCR) U19. I have played in a Futsal league and indoor at Mockingbird Valley during the winter months for the past 3 years. I started playing soccer when I was 3 years old. I have always played up 2 age groups because I have an older sister. I was often the smallest member of the team, but I played against some great soccer players. This experience has made me a better player. My mom has always encouraged me to get involved with different sports and activities to be a well-rounded student athlete. I participated in volleyball (club), basketball, softball, piano lessons, art club and robotics club during my grade school years at Notre Dame Academy (NDA). In high school I have been involved with: coaching 4-6 year olds in soccer, peer mentoring, referring games at my grade school (NDA), spending time at Atria nursing home with my “treasures”, and hosting an exchange student from Argentina.
I decided at the beginning of high school that I would concentrate on soccer because I love it and want to play all four years in high school and college. I started every JV game and played almost every minute of each game as a defensive player. In 2016 Mercy hired a new coach and I was moved to Forward on Varsity. It was an adjustment going from defense to offense, but I accepted the challenge. As a defensive player, I needed to talk constantly with my teammates. My ability to communicate with my teammates only got better after switching to offense. I learned how to see up the field so I could take a shot on goal or make a pass to my teammate.
Mercy Academy participates in Region 6, District 24 in Jefferson County Kentucky. Mercy academy has been the Regional champions from 2010 to 2016. We play against several highly competitive teams outside of our region/ district. This includes previous state champion Scared Heart (#1 state rankings per Maxprep.com updated 12/8/2015). We also play Assumption HS (4), Lexington Catholic HS (3), Manual HS (7), and Boyle County HS (10) during the season.
Soccer is a huge part of my life, but it is not the only part. I am focused on my education and being a kid. I’m officially undecided for a college program, but I’m interested in sports medicine, physical therapy, and nursing as possible career interests. I enjoy giving back to my Church and community, by volunteering at multiple organizations and coaching soccer for 4-6 years olds.
Thanks for taking the time to get to know me a little better.
Megan
