Personal Statement

My name is Mairead.  I know, you're thinking, what?  It's pronounced Mairead, rhymes with parade.  Mairead means Margaret in Gaelic.  Being that I come from a traditional family, they named me after my mother and her grandmother.  I guess my name isn't the only attribute that sets me apart from the rest.

A motivational speaker once asked us in school to text a few people and ask them to describe us in three words.  My responses back had the same three words: hard-worker, brave and honest.  Hard Worker- Throughout my three years as a varsity athlete I've tried to work as hard as I can to be the best teammate, player, student, friend and person.  Each year, I have been on the all-star teams for each of the four sports that I play. Also, being that I thrive on competitive play, I play all four sports while maintaining a 4.0 grade point average.  Brave- Any soccer goalkeeper, who truly loves the sport, has to be brave.  It takes bravery to put myself out there sometimes in a sport, school and in life.  I'm not afraid to try something that might not be the norm or could be challenging.  Being that I have  played four varsity sports  makes me brave- to do it all without specializing early so that I don’t get a chance to try them all.  Honest- As a two time captain so far, it takes honesty and integrity to earn respect as a player and leader.

In my future senior season, my team will have one more go at the sectional title. A title we missed by one goal this past season, and have already started planning how to make the most of next season and hold the sectional title.   In college, I know that I would love to find a goalkeeper spot on a competitive team in a northeast college.  My major in college will be something to do with health and wellness.
