Alex Pappas Lane ...Since the age of 9, swimming has taught me about what it means to be competitive, what hard work looks like, true sportsmanship, respect for coaches and competitors, to be a teammate, and leader in and out of the pool. These things make up what I think is a great foundation for my future as a student athlete, and have carried over into my goals to be the best student academically I can be, to make a real difference in the future.
Swimming is a way of life for me. It’s what I think about all day, every day. It keeps me centered and focused. My mind gets clear in the pool. I use the discipline of the sport and apply it to how I study for school, and it really makes a difference in my class room performance.
My long-term swimming goal is to go all the way and reach my full potential…get that Olympic Trial cut one day! Long term academically, I’m not sure yet what I want to study in college, but I feel that it will be focused on sports in some way, maybe sports marketing, sports management or coaching.
In the short-term, I will get my NCSA Junior National cut(s) this year with more hard work, and in school, I’m pushing to get straight A’s on my report card. I know that it’s not just about working hard in the pool, but you have to work just as hard or harder in school to have a full future.
