Swimming for me is more than just a sport. It has taught me so many lessons in life. When I was 13, I went through a really hard time when I was adding time like crazy. I was training so hard, but not getting the results that I desired. My body had changed so fast that I had to learn the new adjustments to make in order to be successful. This was a true challenge. I often felt like giving up, but I persevered and overcame the hurdles that were in my way. I learned that I should never give up simply because something is hard. When things become difficult, the end result is even more rewarding. Swimming has instilled a strong work ethic in me that has made me a better person in the pool and in everyday life. Being a competitive swimmer has also taught me that true winners are not those who are always the best, but those who don't stop reaching for their goals and are willing to work hard. Every swimmer has experienced that moment when you had a bad race and you just don't know why. After a race like that, it is important to regroup and begin training for the next race. I am willing to work hard not only in the pool, but in the classroom as well. I have learned the value of hard work and determination for a combination that creates success athletically and academically. Being a passionate swimmer and a dedicated straight-A student, I know I have what it takes to be a successful leader and athlete, given any opportunity.
