- 2021 Highlights #2
Personal Statement
Hello! My name is Mallory Thomas. I first became interested in tennis when I was in 7th grade and began taking lessons when I was 14 years old. As soon as I started to learn how to play the game, I absolutely fell in love with it -- after I went to my school practices and my lessons, I would then come home and watch professional tennis on TV for hours in an attempt to model my game after some of the best players in the world, including my personal favorites Roger Federer and Stan Wawrinka. Regarding my game style, I would consider myself to be an aggressive all-court player who hits a big forehand and one-handed backhand, hits a big serve, and I also love to come into the net. Additionally, I like to mix things up and utilize a lot of slices and drop shots to throw my opponents off. Considering that I've only been playing tournaments since my freshman year of high school, I've played about 10 total tournaments in my career. I was planning on playing many more tournaments last year, but unfortunately with the COVID-19 pandemic I was unable to do so. Despite this, however, I've still managed to have a few good runs against some of the top players in my state. I've had a pretty successful high school tennis career as I've qualified for the my district's singles tournament twice so far and last year I compiled a 24-5 record at first singles. As far as my academics go, I would consider myself to be an excellent student. I've been on the high honor roll and been in the top 3% of my class (which consists of about 460 students) all throughout high school. Basically all of the classes I've taken have been honors classes and recently I have started to take many more AP and CCP classes. My goal is to be able to play for a college where I will be able to play for a solid team that will allow me to continue to develop my game and reach my full potential as a player, as well as receive a good education at the same time. Thank you for taking the time to look at my profile.
