I’m Mia and I am currently a junior at Xavier High School in Cedar Rapids. I ran 5ks with my dad growing up and I ran cross country in middle school and decided to give high school running a try. Having had lots of aunts and uncles run competitively in college, (Loras, Wartburg, and Loyola) I had a sense of what the sport would entail but I learned so much more after I experienced it myself. My first year of high school cross country my freshmen year was an amazing experience. The upperclassmen on the team were so supportive and made me feel apart of the team despite only being a freshmen. Because of these upperclassmen, I decided to try track for my first time. During middle school, I always played tennis during the spring, but I decided to try something new. I never would have guessed how much fun track was with my teammates. I was incredibly blessed to have been able to compete at the state track meet with my 4x800 team. The impact my teammates had on my experience in track made me want to be the type of person who was always looking out for underclassmen or anyone who needed help.
