Personal Statement
My goal in volleyball is to play at the collegiate level. I am coachable, detailed, and driven. I am strong willed, comfortable in my own skin and easy to get along with. I have been told I am undersized to play at the level that I aspire to play at, however, the more I hear this the harder I work! I have challenged myself since the start of my volleyball career to be on the best teams that offer the best coaching to help develop my skill sets as a leader, a setter, a defender and a team player. I have been on a team that has qualified for Nationals every year with me as the captain/leader running a 5-1. I take pride spreading out the offense and keeping defenses guessing. However, one of my strongest setting attributes is that I connect very well with my middle hitters. This connection is one reason our team competes at the highest level. In addition to setting my pins, I run a lot of 1's and trays to keep the offense unpredictable. As a starting freshman on the #1 Ranked 4A team in Iowa, I helped my team finish third. As a freshman I shared the setting role with a senior player and we ran a 6-2 offense. As a sophomore this year, my team is running a 5-1 offense. We finished our season in a tough loss at the Iowa State 4A Championship game. I was also named 1st Team All Conference, 1st Team all Metro and an Honorable Mention All-State selection, while breaking the Xavier school record in assists with 1005! It was a great run! I believe my ability to keep defenses guessing and disguising my sets is allowing for more one on one situations for my very talented hitters. Athletically, I work out with a cross fit trainer 2-3 times per week and participate in my High School lifting program. I am a gym rat. I believe that it takes practicing and working out outside of the team time to really hone and improve my skills.. These workouts have improved my quickness and increased my vertical and upper body strength. Increasing my strength and vertical has increased my blocking ability. Academically I am a strong student. I attend Xavier High School in Cedar Rapids. Xavier is a Catholic school in Iowa that is rated as one of the finest academic schools in Iowa. We have the highest college graduation rate. Xavier not only prepares its students for college but also prepares us to excel in college and in life. I enjoy reading. I'm organized and have a plan. My parents have instilled the idea that an uncompromising work ethic and a passion to believe in myself will help me accomplish my goals. I think these qualities have helped make learning easier and more enjoyable for me. At Xavier, our classes are very intense and expectations are very high of its students. Going to a Catholic school has also given me some strong core values. I will carry these values beyond my high school and college learning.
My goal for college is to be a strong academic student and to graduate in four years. I love volleyball and I want to play at the of college level. I would be great on your team because I have a great personality and a positive attitude. I like to practice hard, play hard, and win. I am a very good teammate and I find it easy to get along well with others. I spend a lot of extra time in the gym developing my game. I'm not afraid of hard work.
