My name is Laila I was born and raised in Maine. I started throwing in middle school where the high school coach saw me and knew I would be different. Lewiston does not actually have a trained throwing coach so I am what you would call a Youtube self-taught thrower. I watch the Olympians and college throwers and break down their processes and techniques. I am different than others because I have Tourette’s Syndrome, so I process things differently. As a freshman I made it to States. By my sophomore year I decided to leave basketball for indoor track and ended up winning the State Championship for shot put and was invited to the New England Championships. Spring season of my sophomore year I found myself really loving discus. I again got invited to New England Championships, but I had decided to play in a basketball tournament the weekend before and ended up tearing my ACL. I spent the summer before Junior year rehabbing my knee. With only two meets left for indoor before regionals and States I qualified for both with one throw. I continued to work and strengthen my leg to be ready for the outdoor season. I ended up winning regionals and placing third in States for Discus again being invited to the New England Championships.
I am hoping to find a school who will embrace what I have to offer as an athlete and and as a student. I love being on a team and love working on my craft and cannot wait to work with an experienced throwing coach!
Thank you for taking the time to review my profile.
