Personal Statement
I am simply Megan. I am shy and quiet but determined and fiercely competitive in everything that I do. I originally signed up for track my freshman year as a way to stay in shape during winter and spring to prepare for fall volleyball. I was blessed with having a coach who could see potential in me. It was with his encouragement and individualized training program that helped me become the successful person and runner I am today. My coach has taught me that being successful in anything requires both a strong mind and strong body. Academic success and athletic success require the same commitment and you can not be successful in athletics without being successful in academics. He always encouraged me to “Set goals then shatter the hell out of them.”. My academic goals are in short term, to become a physician assistant and then further my education with medical school in the hopes of becoming a physician. My athletic goals are to continue running and competing at the college level. I have set four school records in both indoor and outdoor track and field this past season. I currently hold the school record in the 300m, 4x400m relay, spring medley relay, and distance medley relay. I was fortunate to set a new PR this spring at states with a time of 1:00.76. I have been improving by dropping 3-4 seconds off all my times each year since freshman year so my goal is to run 56.0 seconds and achieve the school record this spring. This was a goal of mine since freshman year. My goal for senior year is to beat my own school records as well as pick up two additional ones. My coach believes in me and I believe in my coach and in my team. I will push myself to never disappoint either of them. We train as a team, we run as a team, and we win as a team. One of the greatest feelings is winning not only for yourself but for your team. I feel it encourages me to continue giving everything I have but it also inspires other runners to improve. Track has given me the confidence to believe that any I set. I have the ability to shatter. I am simply Megan but I have a lifetime of goals I intend to shatter.
