Personal Statement
I have always been involved in sports, for as long as I can remember, starting with soccer when I was only three years old. Having a passion for just about any sport, I decided to go out for track and field in 7th grade. After my first track meet in which I competed in High Jump, 100 Meter dash, and the 4X100 meter relay, I knew I would be hooked on Track and Field, as well. Since then, I have had this dream to compete at the college level. The more I have competed, the more I have wanted to make this a reality.
Over these last 2 years, one thing that has taught me a lot about who I am as a person and an athlete; has been losing. Losing on any level, whether it be simply not meeting my own expectations in a specific event, not doing as well up against another athlete as I had wanted, or just not achieving my next PR; losing has given me a new perspective on myself in those moments. Learning how to persevere and keep competing within myself and to help push my teammates through at times like these, when the 'chips are down'; is irreplaceable. These moments show me what type of student-athlete I will need to be now, and in order to compete at the college level, both athletically and academically.
I am a 3 sport athlete. Playing 3 completely different sports; I have learned the importance of leadership, commitment and hard work; needed to a be an outstanding student-athlete. I use these learned skills on and off the track, which is why, not only a good college match athletically is important to me, but a good fit academically is just as important. I believe, I have the talent in both athletics and academics, along with great leadership skills and the drive to succeed to be an asset to any program.
