2021 Spotlight
2020 HighlightsThe first organized sport I played was Flag Football my position is Quarterback. I started playing Flag Football at 10 years old and still play to this day. I made Varsity as a Sophomore and worked my way into the starting QB position. I began the season getting extremely nervous before every game, afraid of making mistakes. By the end of the season I learned that I couldn’t be afraid of what could go wrong and if I messed up, I just had to shake it off and make adjustments. I learned how to deal with my failures and use it to better myself as an athlete. My freshman year I decided to try throwing Discus and Shot Put for our high school track and field team, because it was something new and I had a “good arm”, as my coaches would say. I missed qualifying for the Regional Meet that year by 3 feet at Discus but I would qualify by my Sophomore year. This sport was so different because it was all on me I did not have my team to support me like in Football . Throwing is so much more technical and one mistake could mess up your entire throw. By being put in high pressure situations at track meets I am able to challenge myself and overcome the fear of messing up. I like to know that I can control how well I perform simply by my mindset and composing myself.
In May of 2019, I met Coach Gloria Allgood of Thrower’s Respect and joined her club team. With her coaching I considerably improved my Shot Put and Discus and I was also introduced to Javelin, Hammer and Weight. I still have a lot to learn with all the implements, but every coach I have ever worked with says that I am very coachable and I am eager to learn and improve. Being on a club team also means I am competing in several more meets a year than just an average High school athletes, Coach Gloria likes to call it battle tested. I have grown as an athlete from when I first started in sports and I have gained a greater sense of commitment, work-ethic, and leadership. These skills have helped me as an athlete as well as a student. I am hard working in both sports and school, because both are top priority's in my life and my future. I would love to continue being a student-athlete at the collegiate level and I believe any scholarship assistance could help me with this goal.
