Personal Statement
I started running in 6th grade, but I became passionate about running in 8th grade, and started to run year-round in 9th grade. I first joined cross country with my cousin so she had someone to run with. But I soon realized that I really enjoyed competing and challenging myself to become a better athlete, on and off the field. I also really enjoy the family environment that comes with the sport. Missing all-state three different times my freshman year, and two of those times were by one place has definitely given me motivation to become a better athlete. I feel I really gained confidence during my Sophomore year when I earned all-state for cross country and track. Another big influencer would be when I missed over half of the cross country season during my Junior year because of an injury. It's really motivated me to not take the sport for granted and really push to become the best athlete I can.
Some of the things I’ve learned including some benefits of running would be that I’m a lot better at time management than other students who don’t play sports. I’ve learned the value of hard work, sportsmanship, and collaboration. I’m looking to graduate with a 3.5 GPA during high school and go on to college to study Criminology or Criminal justice, so I have a variety of job opportunities. Some obstacles I’ve overcome are injuries as mentioned before, having a small team, and working with them during the off-season to try to make it to states. Overcoming these obstacles, I’ve been lucky to run on varsity for the last three years. I’m very coachable and willing to learn. I’m a good time manager. I am continuously setting realistic goals and working hard during the off-season and in my free time to achieve them.
