I started playing volleyball in fifth grade and once I touched a ball for the first time I fell in love with the sport. My volleyball career began when I attended a camp for Girl Scouts at the University of Alaska, Anchorage (a Division II school). After that camp I played volleyball for the Boys and Girls Club for about two years; and, then I began to play for Midnight Sun Volleyball Club, a competitive league, and I’ve been playing for them ever since.
I’ve always been shorter than other girls my age. Even though I’m only 4’11’’ I still play just as hard as them. In my opinion my height does not affect my game play. I move to the ball quickly, I see the court well, I have leadership skills and I always have a positive attitude. My team can always count on me.
Volleyball has taught me how to work with others, to have great sportsmanship while still being competitive, to be a good leader, to inspire others to play harder, and also to be loud and clear so others can hear me. I’m so thankful to have found this sport.
I attend South Anchorage High school and work very hard to maintain high grades.
My college goal is to play volleyball and to graduate with the necessary degree(s) I need to become a teacher. I’ve wanted to be a teacher since I was six. It’s my long term goal, but I'm still open to other career paths at this point. I have helped coach younger girls with the Boys and Girls Club, Midnight Sun, and at camps my high school conducts each summer. I love coaching and working with younger players helping foster a love for the game.
