Personal Statement
My introduction to formalized athletics began when I was five and started training to be a figure skater. Because figure skating is comprised of many specialized skills, I had several coaches I worked with on a consistent basis. Some of my coaches were former Olympic skating medalist. I continued to skate competitively until I was about 9. Around that time I also started to play volleyball informally at the club level, and really enjoyed learning the game. The time commitment required to do both sports at the same time forced me to choose between them. I chose to pursue volleyball because I enjoyed being part of a team and working as a group to achieve goals as opposed to the individual nature of figure skating.
My club coaches have always emphasized to be a volleyball player and not a volleyball position. Thus, I have always strived to be an all-around player. As a 12-year old, I was a starting full rotation outside hitter for my club team. As a 13-year old, my coach asked me if I would be the teams starting Libero due to my back row skills, and I agreed. So, since that point I have concentrated on playing as a Libero/Defensive Specialist for both my club and high school teams.
In addition, to my defensive skills, I have a smooth, repeatable serve, can competently run the offense when needed, and am also a strong attacker from the back row. I am very positive on the court, and enjoy competing. Many of my teammates look to me during matches and practices to help orchestrate their position on the court, and to set defensive assignments. My leadership style is to assist my team in a supportive and positive manner. I am currently one of the co-captains on my club team.
I began attending Aliso Niguel High School in 2017, and was very excited to make the Junior Varsity volleyball team as a freshman. I started most games either as the Libero or a defensive specialist.
In 2018 as a sophomore, I once again made the Junior Varsity team, and was named the teams Most Valuable Player. My primary position was Libero.
In 2019 as a Junior, I made the Varsity team. Primarily played Libero/DS.
