My name is Hannah Melvin and I am a 5'8" Setter/Utility player from Long Beach, CA. I am currently the setter on my 2014 club team, Seal Beach Volleyball Club 18-s. I also play setter, outside and opposite hitter on my high school Varsity team and have played defensive specialist and middle blocker on my 2012 and 2013 club teams. I am a team player who is hard working and able to adapt quickly to changing game play. I am committed to improving myself physically and as a player. Along side normal practice, I am working on my setting, vertical leap and overall fitness and strength with two excellent coaches.
I am an excellent student with a 4.28 GPA. As a result of my academics and community service, my high school awarded me a four-year reoccurring scholarship, the Mother St. John Fontbonne Scholarship. My favorite subjects are math and chemistry and I look forward to more challenging classes in my senior year.
I am also active in community service. I have been a member of Assisteens, which is a volunteer organization in my city. Throughout the year we do projects such as Operation School Bell, which provides school uniforms and book bags to less fortunate children. I have participated in Operation Shoe Box, which fills shoe boxes with toiletries, snacks, games and other comfort items for our soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan. I volunteer at our local hospital in the Volunteen program, where I work in different divisions helping both the staff and patients. I also volunteer every year in a Christmas cookie making and delivery project, Cookies for Cancer Kids, for children hospitalized at Long Beach Memorial Hospital. During Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter, through my church, I help collect food and prepare baskets for families who are in need. I believe that is the duty of every person to help those in need. If we all helped just a little, we could make an incredible difference in our world.
I am excited by the aspect of going away to college and pursuing my dream of working in the medical field and playing collegiate volleyball. My goal is to be accepted to a university that has an excellent pre-professional program (pre-med) and a volleyball team that I can make a positive impact on and continue to develop myself as a player by challenging me to be the best that I can.
