Hello, my name is Erin Martin. I attend Horizon High School and will graduate in the year of 2017. I have been playing volleyball since I was 10 years old and have always had this dream of playing collegiate volleyball. I strive to become a great player and also the best person I can be. I have a very hard work ethic and a strong mental capacity for what this game takes to be successful.
On the court I am a strong supportive player and a leader at the same time and I’m always dedicated to improving. For my, limited, 2013 summer season, I was able to qualify and compete in the Regional beach championships and came out earning the regional championship with my sister and long term partner, Katie Martin. In the 2014 beach season, I led my regional team to the USAV HP Championships in Hermosa Beach, California, and placed 1st in division 5. I also qualified for the USAV Junior Beach Tour National Championships with my sister, Katie, as well. We also placed 2nd at a regional beach series tournament before the USAV Championships. In the lead up to Hermosa Beach, I placed 1st in another beach series tournament with my regional partner for the USAV Beach HP Championships. In the fall and winter of 2014/15, I played in the Women’s Queen of the Beach Tournaments and have been playing against open (AVP pros) and A/AA level players. My past finishes for the tournaments; 13th (out of 48), 8th (out of 48), and 12th (out of 48). My most exciting experiences of sand volleyball have been playing against former CSU 1st team All-American Angela Knopf and beating my long term role-model, and coach, Kris Bredehoft in the winter beach series 2014/15. Also playing against women’s open players have been a great excitement to my career because it shows me that my potential for improvement is continuing to grow, which is all I ask for.
In my indoor endeavors I played for Colorado Juniors Volleyball Club and Norco Juniors Volleyball Club. When I played for Norco Juniors I was selected as team captain and starting setter for their 13 black (13-1) team. I played in division 1 the entire season and we qualified in state regionals to play at the Regional qualifier to go to nationals, but fell short one spot.
When I competed at Colorado Juniors I was on 14 Matt (14-1) team and we were regional champions and won 4/5 powers we played in. We also placed 5th at Colorado Crossroads Open division and we placed 3rd and the Show Me tournament in Kansas City, Missouri, also playing in Open. We were invited to the Disney Invitational and beat the USAV National “National” Champions on the 2nd day of competition. We then earned an at-large invitation to attend Nationals in Dallas, Texas in the Open division. I was selected for the MVP of the regional tournament and was chosen on the All-Region team. In indoor volleyball, my most exciting experience was playing on the feature court at Colorado Crossroads on live TV. It was a great feeling to be making plays in front of the whole country and as lead setter bringing my team to a win to end our tournament on a positive note.
In the classroom I maintain a 3.7 GPA with an AP class and the rest honors courses. I am willing to work my hardest to achieve the best grades possible and am ready to take on any challenge thrown at me. I am looking to major in Criminology/Sociology in order to become a criminal profiler. I first became interested in this career because I love figuring things out and the human mind has always interested me. I have also been interested in law enforcement and psychology and I thought that a criminal profiler would be an excellent combination of the two. I have a strong work ethic to be able to pursue this career and I believe that you make your own luck and success. I am willing to put 110% and more into anything I ever attempt to do.
