Skylar Winchester '24 Recruiting Profile

Hello! My name is Skylar Winchester and I am a junior at Northwestern Regional #7 in Winsted, CT. I am 16 years old and play for Husky Volleyball Club on the 17 National Smack Team under Coach Ryan Woodcock. As my court time increases, I am focused on expanding my skill set to become a future collegiate athlete. 

I am incredibly driven to become a collegiate athlete and am confident in my capabilities to do so. I feel that I would fit into a competitive college program because of where I direct my focus both on and off the court. This includes putting the needs and goals of my team above individual aspirations. Additionally, I find it important to have passion for the game, and that comes in many different forms. I have the constant desire to become a better, well-rounded player and have a highly competitive spirit. Through my years competing in; gymnastics, volleyball, softball, and basketball, I've been complimented often for my ability to listen, execute and retain the instructions from my coaches. This has enabled me to develop and hone these new skills on the court or field.  For example, during my freshmen season the varsity libero was out with an injury when I was given the opportunity to contribute on the court. Although this wasn't my primary position, my work ethic and drive complimented my athleticism which earned me the starting libero position and the respect of my teammates. This afforded me the perspective and appreciation for the defensive aspects of the game of volleyball. 

Although these are vital, staying disciplined and forming a strong work ethic are both things I've been raised to do and what I continue to build into my game. As I continue to push myself beyond my limits, I look forward to the opportunity of contributing to a collegiate program!
