On September 17th DIAA and the Delaware School Board decided to allow high school sports to start on September 28th. We have two weeks of preseason and then our games are allowed to start on October 20th.
Due to COVID-19 Delaware sports are postponed until the end of winter/beginning of spring. Since high school sports are cancelled my club has decided to run a fall league for volleyball. It will start on August 31st and will last 10 weeks. It is also being streamed live by 302sports.
Throughout the summer I have been conditioning with my trainer John Noonan, working out every morning on my own, and going to volleyball workouts through my club team. My club, Premier Volleyball of Delaware, has been allowing us to have hour long workouts at Red Lion Christian Academy. I have also attend my clubs EDGE camp. The camp was August 10th- August 12th. Only 45 girls were invited to this camp. It was a lot of drills and play time.
Hi my name is Hailey Grotegut and I am currently a junior at Saint Elizabeth High School. I am an outside hitter and defensive specialist for my school team, and play outside hitter and right side for my club. I have a strong passion and love for volleyball. I can’t see myself without it! I am a very understanding person, and am very coach-able. I have the ability to take criticism very well and to apply it to myself. From this sport I have learned discipline and had a lot of life lessons. My high school is very small just like the state of Delaware. I am one of the only players on my school and club team that want to further my athletic career in college. I work very hard to be the best I can and to be different from other players. So every week I have a schedule for my school work and my workouts. My schedule is that I wake up every morning at 4:30am and go to 5am workouts that last until 6:30am. I come home and have the time from 8am-12pm to get my school work done. It depends on what's going on each day for the plans for the rest of the day. I go to the sand courts at least three times a week. I work on serving, hitting different shots and spots. I also work on my footwork. Every night, usually around 6pm I go for a 3 mile run. This schedule has benefited me tremendously. One thing you might not know is that I run track at the varsity level. I run the 200m and the 400m. In addition to my weekly workouts I always go to the track at least once a week.
I am on the shorter side to play as an outside hitter, but I work very hard to increase my vertical and to build muscle to become stronger. Once or twice a week, I work with my personal trainer, John Noonan, at his job ATI. We work on increasing my vertical, strength, and conditioning. I love working in the gym, because not only am I getting stronger, building muscle and agility, but I am learning how to prevent injuries.
I am interested in majoring in Nursing, or Health Sciences. I have the goal to get my MSN. If your college has a program to help me to further my education and goals, I would be interested to talk with you. Thank you!
