Personal Statement
My name is Annika Rigterink. I play for Jammers Volleyball Club, and Henry J. Kaiser High School. I am 6'2, 155 lbs, and have an approach jump of 9'6. I have played volleyball since I was a freshman in high school, and after my first year of playing was a starter on the varsity team for my high school. I've learned lots from volleyball that I have applied to my life. Qualities such as perserverance which I learned from some negative social experiences in school have made a large difference in my performance on the court, and have taught me to never give up. I would like to go to school in an environment like Hawaii, for example California, Texas and Arizona, or other states with similar climates. I am looking at all schools big and small, with a respected educational reputation. I love school and team spirit so both of those things will be important when choosing a school. Financial aid and or scholarships would make going to a more expensive school much less stress on my family. My family will apply for the FAFSA if I do not recieve assistance through volleyball scholarships and or merit-based scholarships. My desired field of study is either medical or musical. I love both and have been interested in both from a very young age. I've been studying piano by ear since I was 3, and since then have been able to easily pick up many instruments and would love to have a career of fine arts or performing. But I am also extremely interested in the human body, muscle systems and how they work which is why I am interested in pursuing a career in sports medicine or physical therapy. My goals for playing volleyball in college are to have lots of fun representing my school to the best of my ability, have a positive impact on my fellow teammates, and be a successful competitve team in whatever division I end up in. No matter where I am, I give 110% at everything I do. If your not going to try hard and go at everything with all your might, there almost is no point in trying in my mind.
