Personal Statement
Aloha! My name is Malia Camero and I am a 5'6" setter from Kamuela, Hawaii, currently playing for Hawaii Preparatory Academy's girl's volleyball team and Kamuela Volleyball Club, graduating in 2022. Due to COVID-19, HPA did not have a girl's volleyball season, however, I tried out for the HPA boy's volleyball team and lead the team in assists. My goal is to excel as a student-athlete and to help my teammates do the same. I plan on holding myself accountable to my coaches and professors to reach this goal.
I am grateful to have had many opportunities to work with a variety of coaches who have helped me grow, both as an athlete and a student. I am very passionate about volleyball and am looking to continue to grow through volleyball programs at the next level. My strengths include commitment, determination, and perseverance, while maintaining a positive attitude, both on and off the court. I consider my teammate's success to be just as important as mine and enjoy watching my teammates thrive in all areas of life.
A main lesson that I have been taught throughout my years at HPA is that the mental game is just as important as the physical game, and I hope to take that mindset into my next steps as a student-athlete. I am incredibly grateful to have a strong family support in Hawaii and have a strong spiritual guidance through these decisions. I am excited to embark on this new journey and to develop in the next level of volleyball.
