My name is Mattie Wells and I currently play with Southern Illinois Volleyball Academy’s 17s team. I’m from a small town in southern Illinois and I attend Norris City-Omaha-Enfield High School. In February, I will be playing my senior year of volleyball and graduating in the fall of 2021.
By the end of my junior season of volleyball, I accumulated 1775 varsity assists—a school record. Under the Class 1A 2019 Coach of the Year, Mrs. Melton, I was named First Team All South. I believe I have a solid foundation and can be molded into what a future coach needs for their team.
I am always looking to learn more about the game; I have hopes of continuing my volleyball career after I graduate high school. As a friendly and talkative person, I have a tremendous love for my position as a setter, for it allows me to be involved in every play and have that special connect between every one of my teammates. Being a perfectionist has caused me to never stop setting goals for myself, for I am never satisfied— I always feel as if I can accomplish more. My desire to continue learning has made me a very adaptable player.
I take great pride in everything I do. While my primary focus is volleyball, I believe that being involved in other sports such as rodeo, cheer, and softball has made me a very well rounded athlete. I also enjoy sewing—so I can fix any clothing that needs repaired for my teammates!
