Sophia Voiles '24 Recruiting Profile

I have been playing volleyball since I was in 2nd grade, first through the recreation program at my church and later through my school and club. I love the sport! I have had excellent coaching by Ethan McNeely in middle school, D.J. Zipp in high school, private lessons and team coaching with Terri Purichia at Union Volleyball Club, and all of my other coaches throughout my years in club volleyball.  Last year I played for KIVA, and I received excellent training there as well. I have attended many local camps in the Louisville/Kentuckiana area, as well as college volleyball camps at Indiana University Bloomington, IU Southeast, Indiana Wesleyan, Franklin College, and Centre College. I am a hard worker and loyal teammate. My greatest strength is that I play smart and place my hits well. I‘m also a strong defensive specialist as a 6 rotation player for my high school team. As a freshman, I worked for and achieved the starting outside hitter position on the Varsity team. I have maintained my position on the team through my junior year. On my club teams, I have consistently been a starter as an outside hitter as well as middle blocker.  I enjoy helping younger volleyball players, too. I’ve given private lessons in the summer, and I have helped coach a junior league at KIVA. I’m a straight A student, and I set high goals for myself. I’m also in my high school marching band, Student Council, Academic team, and many other clubs. I’m very involved in my community by volunteering through an organization called the Scott County Youth Grantmaking Council, where I am a voting member and typically volunteer 50+ hours per year. I also enjoy being a member and Junior Leader in the Scott County 4-H club. I look forward to attending college to study mathematics in order to be an actuary or work in finance.
