Personal Statement
It's been a dream of mine since I was little to play a sport in college. I always thought I would play basketball like my dad. I started playing basketball in 2nd grade and played up until 8th grade. I started playing volleyball in 6th grade. Throughout the season I enjoyed the sport more and more every practice. Volleyball has taught me so many important life skills such as stepping out of my comfort zone and being strong both mentally and physically. To play volleyball you must be mentally tough. Since I started playing volleyball I have seen a positive increase in my mental toughness and confidence. Most importantly, the sport has taught me determination and grit. I consider myself a very determined person. I set goals and try to do everything I can to reach them. I went from in 8th grade being a B team player to today being a varsity starter at Ankeny Centennial due to my determination. Ankeny Centennial has been open since 2013. Our volleyball program has qualified for state five times and is three-time state champions. What's my next goal? Find the perfect college for me and keep getting stronger.
