Personal Statement
My goal is to play college volleyball in a competitive environment where I can continue to improve my skill and pursue my passion. My love for volleyball began in California when I was 12. I started my volleyball career playing club for TStreet as an outside. I had 3 years of very technical training at TStreet. At the same time I was also taking beach volleyball lessons, camps, and playing in beach tournaments. After moving to Maryland, I continued to pursue volleyball with 1 year of club at Maryland Juniors and 2 years playing for Columbia Volleyball Academy, where I am now on the 17 Red Team. Through the transition from California to Maryland, I have learned how to adapt to new club environments and my mindset has kept me growing as a player, even though the volleyball in Maryland is not as competitive as California.
I am a versatile player with experience as both a middle and a pin hitter. I am a steady presence on the court with a positive attitude. I can also look at a court, not just as a player, but as a coach. I started a youth volleyball training program in June, and I have continued to help young girls develope their skills and love for the game. I consistently receive positive parental feedback. I have discovered a new capacity to teach, and I see that as a possibility in my future beyond college.
With regard to academics, as my transcript shows, I am a committed student, taking 3 AP classes my junior year. My unweighted GPA exceeds a 4.0 on a 4.0 scale. I am looking for a college that is competitive and will support my desire to continue my education.
In my spare time I also work at a restaurant as a food expediter, server, and hostess. I also volunteer for an international internship program. This year my team is working with hospitals in Nigeria to help educate and support a local immunization program.
