My family loves volleyball! From my earliest memories of my mom taking me to her adult league games, to the time we spend together watching college matches both live and on television, volleyball has always been a part of my life. I have been playing since fourth grade and have been on a national-level team since I was 13 years old. I work hard to do whatever is needed to improve myself and my team and to become a better leader both on and off the court. I spend most of my free time in the gym, on the beach courts in the summer, or in the weight room.
I have realized that I enjoy playing volleyball, not because of the rewards or trophies associated with a winning season, but instead because I love to compete, to prepare, and to work with others as part of a team. I appreciate what this game has taught me about myself and have learned that I need to be a part of a competitive environment, even when I am not the most gifted or talented. My volleyball experience has also taught me to enjoy the journey - the preparation and hard work with a team toward a common goal, even when there is little personal reward or recognition, and to remain persistent through disappointment. These are lessons that I try to apply to my life.
As I continue to grow physically and mentally throughout my college career, I will strive to be an asset to your team. Most importantly, I will conduct myself with honor and respect both on and off the court, knowing that the way I carry myself reflects my team, my coaches and the school I attend.
