My mom told me she played in a beach volleyball tournament when she was pregnant with my twin sister and me, and she dug a ball right off her stomach. I’m pretty sure I helped get that ball up and it counts as my first official dig! Digging the ball is still one of my favorite things to do, whether I’m on the beach or playing indoor. This club season, I’m transitioning from playing right side to being a libero, so I’m even more excited about digging up as many balls as I possibly can. I still plan to play right side part of the time so I can continue hitting and blocking as well.
I’ve had some struggles in the past with my perfectionist attitude. Even though the best players make a lot of mistakes in volleyball, I used to get mad at myself every time I messed up. After seeing a sports psychologist, I have gained many tools to help me learn from my mistakes and let go of them more easily. I have also learned to become more of a leader and I will be a captain next year on my high school team. Each year, I keep learning how to be a better player and person and I can’t wait to keep learning and growing in college too!
