Hello! My name is Rei Yang, and I am a sophomore at Nova Classical Academy. At 5 feet 2 inches tall, I may be considered a shorter libero, but I don’t let that stop me from doing my best. Over the years, I’ve learned to jump high to dig deep balls, and even though I have short legs, I’ve worked hard to move my feet quicker and get to the ball.
In addition to my high school volleyball experience, I also compete with Kokoro Volleyball Club during the winter season. One aspect of the game I truly enjoy and continually strive to improve is my digging. There’s something about the challenge of digging that excites me the most, and I’m always working to sharpen that skill.
Winning isn’t as important to me as showing up with my best physical and mental game. I’ve learned over the years that without confidence, my skills will never show through. Confidence is what allows my skills to shine, and it’s something I’ve worked hard to build.
Playing for my high school has been such a rewarding experience, especially since it allows me to play alongside athletes of different age groups. It’s a different dynamic from club volleyball, but it’s helped me grow and prepared me for the challenges I face on the court. I never take this sport for granted—whether it's improving my physical skills or mental toughness, I'm constantly pushing myself to become a better player every day.
