Dear coaches,
In my personal statement, I want to address some of the information that I have not put in my profile. I have played volleyball for 5 years in 2 different countries, China and America; and 2 different states, California and New England. Although those moves were huge changes in my life and adjusting different environments were hard, the different coaching styles, different ways of the basic techniques that I have experienced in different places had made me into an all-around person that is open to all kind of forms of volleyball. That is the reason that made me love the versatility of volleyball and brought me into the thought of college volleyball. As a player that has five years of experiences, indeed, volleyball has gradually become a huge part of my life and my passion, so I truly want to pursue my interest and use it as an efficient tool to get into the college that I dreamed of.
In my opinion, being a good volleyball player not only need to learn the new skills quickly, but also requires an extensive amount of time and work that is put into practices. As an outside hitter and a defensive specialist, I have strong confidence in my back roll skills, receiving and defending, because of the repetitions of those technics in my practices. As an experienced player, I believe that I could contribute to the team through my hard work and persistence. Moreover, since there are six people on the court during a game, teamwork becomes the most essential aspect of volleyball, so it is very important to be a proactive player to encourage and communicate with my teammates. As an outgoing person, I have the confidence to be a caring and thoughtful teammate.
As much as I love playing volleyball, I also like to study science at school. Currently, I am having a GPA of 4.5 and took two AP classes in my sophomore year, AP Biology and AP Calculus AB. For my college goals, I aim for academically selective colleges and want to major in biochemistry in the future, however; I am open to all divisions and all locations.
Thank you for reading this!
Sincerely,
Leya
