Personal Statement

This will be my 8th season with Atlantic Valley Volleyball Club (“AVVC”). As a ten year old, I started playing on the 12 year old team.  When I played on the 13 year old team, I was a libero. I have played on AVVC’s national team for 4 years. My first year on the 14 national team, I was a setter and the second year; I was a starting outside hitter. On the 15 and 16 national team, I played as the starting libero. Last year, I played on the 17 national team. I am playing my final season at AVVC's 18 Red (National) Team. I am easy to coach and always looking for advice on how to improve my game. Each time I step on the volleyball court, I want to perform to the best of my ability, at both games and practices. Playing college volleyball will not only let me improve my volleyball skills, but also teach me important life skills, such as discipline, respect, and leadership.

I recently finished my fourth season on the New Providence High School varsity volleyball team. As a freshman, I was the starting varsity libero. As a sophomore, junior, and senior I was a starting outside hitter.  My senior I was co-captain along side another teammate. Aside from playing volleyball, I also participate in my school’s marching band playing the tenor saxophone and in the concert band playing the bassoon. I have been a member of the musical production crew for three years which helps create the stage sets and perform scenery changes during the performances. During my sophomore year I joined my school's spring track team and ran winter track my junior year. I graduated from the Cantonese Language Livingston Chinese School in 2012, and have volunteered as a teacher’s assistant in the Cantonese language class and cultural beading class since. Two years ago I had the opportunity to intern at the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center located in New York City. Last summer I returned to the hospital where I was a temporary work for the month of July.

I am a conscientious student. Who works hard, and strives to do my best in all my classes. I am taking and have taken several honors courses (Algebra 1, Advance Algebra and Functions, American Literature, Biology, Chemistry, World Literature, British Literature) that my school has to offer. I took AP class starting my junior year(AP Chemistry and AP Physics B). This year I am taking several more AP and honors classes (AP AB Calculus, Honors Humanities, AP Psychology, AP Japanese, and AP Physics C)

My goal is to major in forensic science or chemistry. This interest began when I was in elementary school. In my school’s annual science fair I performed numerous experiments that were related to forensic science. I want to find a college that will meet my intended major and have a challenging volleyball program that can help me grow and improve my skills.
