Personal Statement

Hi, I'm Faith Herity

3/2018 Update: I'm happy to say, I'm looking forward to playing at my new home away from home at Curry College with my new VB family .

This club season I'll be playing for Side Out Sports again. This my 5th year playing competitively.  Last year was my 1st at a new club. I played up on their 18's team. My goal was to play against higher level competition in preparation for the 2017 high school Varsity season.  I'd love to be able to have the opportunity to continue to play volleyball in college.  My team-mates and I had a 33W-7L "set" win Summer League season.

(11/2017 Update:) Our overall 2017 Team Awards: Group II State Champions; Sectional Champions; Big North Patriot Division Champions; and finally Tournament of Champions Finalist at William Paterson Univ.;  Indiv. Honor - 2nd Team All Division (2017 Overall Season 24W-2L).

I've been told by my coaches that 'I'm easy to coach; I am a quick learner; I take what they tell me and implement it both in practice and on the court.' I'll always give you my best efforts both on the court and off to the best of my abilities to achieve the goals of my self, coaches, and team.  Although I've played multiple sports to keep fit and socialize with my friends during off seasons, Volleyball is my passion. I love to play, am always eager to learn more and will always play to win.  My philosophy... "You can rest after you leave the court!" I would love an opportunity to not only grow academically but to also be able to utilize the skills I've learned in the sport I love.

My goal after college is to seek employment in the law enforcement field, specifically for the FBI or CIA. I plan to major in Sociology or Political Science with Pre-law.  I Criminal Justice classes at Rockland BOCES.

2017 - I was the Secretary of Skills USA (our vocational club.) My course at BOCES will enable me to be eligible for 6 college credits by the end of my senior year. I've held the position of Secretary of Skill USA in Jr. year,  and Vice President of Skill USA,  Sr. year; I've been inducted into the National Technical Honor Society both Jr and Sr. Year.  I was Student of the month in September and made Honor Roll all four marking periods.  I Won 2nd place Silver for River Dell for Scholastic and William Paterson Photo competition.  I am the Sports Editor and a writer for our school paper 'The Ridellion at River Dell.' I was also selected to represent our school at Rockland BOCES in a Public Speaking competition in Albany.  Although I didn't bring home a medal that time I still won! I pushed my self to go outside my comfort level, gave it my best at the time, learned a lot and met a lot of amazing people. My family and I volunteer as a foster family for rescued dogs and cats as needed. To date we've helped nurture, train and place 34 pets.

Thank you for taking the time to view my information and highlight videos.

Sincerely, Faith Herity

  • I am looking forward to a new season at my new club! I look forward to new skills, philosophies, and friendships. I chose to play up an age level this club season to prepare for my Senior HS year 2017/2018. Nine of our Varsity players graduated out this year and there are some big shoes to fill at River Dell High School. I want to be ready for the Varsity tryouts!
  • 2016 Sideout Sports Volleyball Club - Fairfield, NJ ((16-2a Pink) Regional/Travel A Team )
  • I have been playing Club Volleyball for 3 years. First as a Middle Blocker than Outside Hitter and this past season as wingman 'outside and opposite.' Since starting Club Volleyball I've learned a lot. I love to play competitively. With each set I learn and push harder. The ultimate sense of accomplishment is when we can take what we've learned from both the great plays and the bad; move forward and go all the way to the win! It's a great feeling. This year we won three tournament Championships in 1st place; then 1 tournament in second place and 2 bracket wins at Irish Fest and Beach Fest. However, the best win of any win is what my coaches and trainer have taught me over the years... that no matter the outcome; win or lose, if you take something away from the game; if you've learned something... you've won! Volleyball is my passion and I hope to be able to continue to learn, grow, teach and play competitively through my remaining HS season, College and as an adult.

Training

  • Privates and Self Motivation
  • 4 years
  • I started out as a recreational player in 6th grade. I tried out for 7th grade and didn't make the middle school team; but I used that experience to drive me to train on my own that summer with the determination of making team the following fall. I got up every morning; jogged around town, went to the park and served against a wall and would receive it back. That fall I made the 8th grade middle school team. Although I made the team and was proud I met my goal I wasn't where I wanted to be... a starter! I set a new goal... next year I would be a starter. That season I played to the best of my ability and tried out for a club volleyball team. I made the team as a middle blocker. At first I wasn't the starting blocker. It took 1 month for me to move up and earn the starting position. This further motivated me to continue to work hard. Our team was going to Penn State but only 9 of the 15 would be selected to go! I started training with the coaches at Side Out Sports and made the cuts for Penn State. Since then I have continued private training when able and started both as outside hitter and opposite for my club and HS teams. This year's upcoming goal is to make Varsity as a starter. To hopefully accomplish that I joined a club where I will play up an age level to hopefully play against stronger competition to help me prepare for Varsity tryouts and the Varsity Season.

  • I've attended SOS Fall Camp in 2014, Summer Camp in 2015 and began private lessons off and on all through 2015, 2015 and 2017. My primary trainer was Rob Griffiths until he moved to Fla. last September. Now I've been working primarily three coaches at SOS; Justin, Allie and Jeff. All of the coaches are amazing and each coach finds a way to enhance my skills to tweak or/and teach me something new. I always enjoy my training at SOS including working with all of the amazing staff there.
