My name is Lauren DeVoe and I am a setter for the class of 2018. Ever since I began playing volleyball in sixth grade, a dream of mine has been to compete at the collegiate level. Whether practice or a game, every time I step out onto the court I push myself to the best of my ability--always striving for improvement. By doing so, I also encourage my teammates to do the same.
I am a very versatile player; in addition to setting, I am able to play anywhere in the back row and hit outside or opposite. Experiencing the game from all of these positions has molded me into a player who not only seeks victory but appreciates the unique value of every single player on the court.
As a sophomore in high school, I was on the starting varsity team as an opposite hitter. I received second team All-County and All-Conference honors. During my junior year, I play all-around as a setter and right-side hitter for my high-school's varsity team. I received first team All-County and All-Conference for the 2016 season. To further my exposure to the game, I have played club for the past four years and was a setter each year. Each year my team practiced and competed with a 6-2 and 5-1 which has made me comfortable setting from the front row.
As a starting junior on the varsity team, I played all-around as a setter and opposite hitter. I received first team All-County and first team All-Conference. As a senior, I was captain of the varsity team and still played as an all-around setter and opposite hitter. I once again received first team All-Conference, and first team All-County. I also received first team Group 3-All State, and third team All State. I am also an "Athlete of the Year" Nominee for the Northjersey.com Sports Awards.
Volleyball has allowed me to grow and get stronger not only as a player but as a person. It has made me into a strong leader and a determined player. The game has created a passion for me that will never go away. The most satisfying feeling is receiving that medal after a long day, knowing that you and your teammates have put in everything you have--blood, sweat, and tears--and pushed yourselves as hard as you could.
