My name is Ava Macdonald. I am a Bay Ridge Prep HS junior in Brooklyn, New York. I live on Staten Island with my two moms, two older siblings attending college, and our labradoodle. My deepest values include family, friends, helping others, personal growth, and volleyball. One of my main life goals is to play volleyball at the college level. I plan on studying fashion marketing in college. Throughout my education, I have required academic accommodations and have found inner strength through my unique abilities. I have learned to rise when life requires more of me than some of my peers. I've needed to learn patience with myself, and pushing myself harder now comes naturally to me. Playing volleyball has taught me about teamwork, determination, leadership, and self-positive talk. Overcoming personal challenges has influenced my outlook on life and my relationships with others. Unfortunately, at a very young age, I experienced the loss of my cousin to a traumatic brain injury and also endured my brother's brain surgery when he was 17 years old. To my credit, I have been involved in athletics my entire life; I have been a competitive dancer since the age of two, and I compete nationally. I have a terrific work ethic and a positive attitude, and I'm told I have a wonderful sense of humor.
I look forward to the journey of accomplishing my future goals and hope to continue to inspire others along the way.
