My name is Sydney Green and I am an Outside Hitter. I am currently a Sophomore at Packer Collegiate Institute, where I have been playing Volleyball for 7 years (since 5th grade) and absolutely love it! I am 5’2” and weigh 125 pounds. When I first started playing, I was nervous because I am not as tall as some of the other girls. What I have realized is that what I lack in natural height, I make up for in my ability to jump, my athleticism, my coachable and positive attitude. I keep myself mentally ready at all times and when I step into the gym, I am consistently trying to make myself AND my team better. I am a very well-rounded volleyball player being able to play any position on the front row and back row.
I have played high school volleyball for two years – Junior Varsity as a Freshman and now Varsity as a Sophomore. Our team last year won the ACIS Tournament and we also made it to the finals this year. I was awarded a three sport team award last year. I also have been playing club volleyball for 2 years. I play with South Brooklyn Volleyball Club where last season I was given the Most Valuable Player (MVP) award. I have realized that in order for a team to be successful – we must always work together. As an individual, we need to make certain sacrifices to realize our goals. That means pushing hard in both volleyball practice and also with our academics. Being a student-athlete has helped me learn how to prioritize my school and work life and how to be very organized, in order to achieve my goals.
My cumulative GPA is a 2.7 on a 4.0 scale. Currently I have a B average my core classes. I plan to take the ACT during my Junior year. I am currently undecided about my major, but plan on pursuing a four-year degree. I also really hope to continue playing volleyball on the college level. I am searching for a school that offers academic challenge and high level volleyball.
